2019 Zambia Champions League – The Howling King Continues To Rule

The Howling King continues to rule laureled with the 2019 Zambia champions league throng at Woodlands stadium after crashing Green Eagles 3-1 in the penalty shootout.

Fantastic Zesco United completed a season double after edging past Green Eagles to retain the Copper title for the third time in a row. That was Zesco’s eighth title since 2007 and they are wickedly staging a coup de tat against Nkana Red Devils.

Coming against a determined Green Eagles, Zesco was pushed against the wall to the extreme and Eagles would have stolen it in regulation time but for a genuine goal that was disallowed.

The bitting league play-off final at Woodlands stadium withstood a pendulum swing of gratifying football from both ends. But neither Zesco nor Eagles could break the deadlock and quickly smell the 2019 Zambia champions league crown.

In their quest for a first league title, Green Eagles looked a more motivated and hungrier side with Ceasar Hakaluba, Spencer Nsautu and Kaseba dominating play.

Zesco United, on the other hand, remained resolute and true to their lovely football of passing the ball. Intriguing, though, they looked blank upfront without Lazarous Kambole.

When the two sides couldn’t settle their score within ninety minutes, they went for the lottery and Zesco United was 3-0 up within the first three kicks when Eagles missed three times in a row.

It ended 3-1 in favour of Zesco who join the legendary Nkana, Mufulira Wanderers, Kabwe Warriors as teams that have won the Zambian league three times in a row.

Earlier, Buildcon beat ZANACO 3-1 in the third and fourth league playoff of the 2019 MTN FAZ premier league champion. Mphepo was the hero of the day as he bagged a hattrick that condemned ZANACO to the drainage.

Zesco is now four titles away from being the most successful Zambian team ever.

That sounds unbecoming and a statement Nkana the most successful Zambian side won’t want to hear.

Congratulations to Zesco United!!
