Some hope of qualification for Zambia glittered on the horizon after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Botswana in Lusaka on Friday and three days later, the trumpets of the battle between the two sides are blown in Francis Town – Botswana.
The stakes look high for Zambia and the Chipolopolo must take their chances in this second leg against Botswana before Micho’s troops take on Zimbabwe in another of a more ferocious brutal Southern African battle of heavyweights.
Zambia looked sluggish in the opening quarter in Lusaka and Botswana was almost getting away with it after taking the lead. The home side, however, turned up the heat in waterlogged pitch forcing the Tswanas to abort their precious lead, giving up all three points.
Getting into this match, Botwana will go flat out in attack but those burst out of energy from the Zambians in the second half must be a lesson Botswana must not forget each time they force the waves of attack.
Zambia is a more technically gifted side and has some incredible ammunition to hurt them from every angle given the slightest of chances.
Botswana nevertheless is always a harsh hunting ground especially in their backyard and Zambia must be tough yet reserved if they are to fly out of Botswana with all the three points in the bag.
Micho in this quest will heavily rely on the midfield triangle of Kampumbu , Mwepu and Lubambo Musonda. The three will be a thread of precious life in the Zambian engine room but they need to be weary of Mothusi Cooper. The emminent Botswana star boy might have flopped in Lusaka but playing in his home town, he can be a Kalahari scorpion capable of stinging the Zambian hopes to paralysis if left unchecked.
Upfront, Micho trusted The South African duo of Justine SHONGA and Augustine Mulenga but after they lamentably disappointed, he will need to look for inspiration from somewhere.
Fashion Sakala in this regard will look like a sure bet and positive prospect. He was the aggressive chemical that injected life in the Zambian attacking third when Zambia needed him the most and to combine him with SIKOMBE looks a most likely option for Micho.
Botswana takes on Zambia today at 18:00 hrs in Botswana – Francis Town in the second leg of the back to back Cameroon 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
