The 2019 Zambia transitional league was mind-blowing and it has left us gasping for more: The unbeaten runs, the suspense, the survivals, and surprises were incredible.
As the league is slowly put to bed. Let’s have a look at the five top performers of the league.
Goal Keeper
1. Goalkeeper Sebastian Mwange – GREEN EAGLES
In between the sticks, the Eagles shot-stopper has been a spider web of brilliance throughout the season. While Green Eagles boasts of one of the most disciplined defenses in the league, Mwaange Has also been in the class of his own.
His agility, command and acrobatic saves have been second to none. Drafted into the COSAFA squad as a possible first choice, he only conceded ten goals throughout the 2019 Zambia transitional league and season.
That’s classic from one of the most underrated players in the league the one who gets close to him is Zesco’s Banda who conceded 20.
Back Line
The Backline Clement Mwape – ZESCO UNITED
Clement Mwape’s partnership with Thandi Mwape at Warriors last season was one of the best we have ever seen in so many years.
This type of Zambian partnership was also entertained at Arthur Davies with Mukuka Mulenga and Mudenda
When Clement Mwape moved to Zesco, the challenge of breaking into the starting 11 looked like an impossible barricade to negotiate but class always has its way to the top.
The match against Kaizer Chiefs was the only break he needed and when it came, he flexed his prowess and proved his worth. He went on to break into the National team and scored four goals in the course of the season. He has been the best defender hitherto.
The Midfield
Austin Muwowo – FOREST RANGERS
We might raise eyebrows of gratification over who was the best goalkeeper and defender but not on the most potent midfielder of the season. Austin Muwowo had an orgasmic season. Visionary, sleeky and direct: he kept everyone on the edge of their seats each time he was on the ball.
The little maestro went on to be top scorer with ten goals one above Jesse Were. I will be surprised if Puncherello Chama and crew don’t hand him the player of the season accolade.
The Wing
Banda Lameck – BUILDCON
Buildcon will be flying nose up into the African Aerospace but one boy has been the wing that kept their engine powered enough into the air: Lameck Banda.
When Lameck Banda moved from Team YA Ziko Zesco United, his purpose and intent were clean. It was to play Champions League football with Buildcon. Lameck Banda played with his heart on his sleeves all season long.
Twiza Chaibela of Warriors was a joy on the wing but he lacked the penetration impetus of Lameck Banda. He kept stretching himself on the wings like a rubber band and this energy was the ignition which took Buildcon into the airs of Africa.
The Finisher
Lazarous Kambole – ZESCO UNITED
Kambole has been a wonder to behold in the 2019 Zambia transitional league. He kept powering direct into his markers with such deft, speed and ferocious aggression. Those power-packed runs were like daggers in the stomachs of every defender he faced making him unstoppable.
His mental aggrandizement and swift blazons with or without the ball kept giving him a unique genre of football. He attacked from obscene directions and never let his opponents settle. He finishes the season with 9 goals behind Chris Mugalu, Adam Zikiru and Mavugo of Napsa but we haven’t counted his exploits in Africa and National colours.
Lazarous remains the most deadly attacker in the Zambian league.
