Power Dynamos vs Lusaka Dynamos

MATCH REPORT: Power Dynamos 1-0 Lusaka Dynamos.

It’s been the curse of LD to fail to come back from being 1-0 this season. Whereas the team managed many escapes last season including in this very fixture, it hasn’t been the case this season and another game goes where we played well but didn’t score goals.

On the balance of play, LD deserved at least a point but missing chances both in the first half and second half didn’t help matters. Sikombe alone would have had a hat-trick and Luchanga at least one goal.

Mugalu is just returning from an injury and he lacked match fitness. He was shackled and didn’t tick. He further was offside many times.

Clatous was at his best and he didn’t deserve to lose. He is just the best midfielder in Zambia right now by a country mile!

Our best player today was Godfrey Chibanga who was so good at right back you wonder why he hasn’t been playing. Mwila Phiri is also settled at left back. Godfrey sniffed and then snuffed out danger from Larry Bwalya and made crucial tackles and interceptions to keep the team in the game. Chibanga even caused two handballs in the box which the officials didn’t give.

The officiating was poor to say the least and you wonder how FAZ gives such a crucial game to a novice ref especially that this was a midweek game with the best referees sitting home.

Two things killed LD: the substitution of Marvin Jere who was giving us steel upfront and the failure to convert chances.

In the end, the better team won and congratulations to Power Dynamos.

Alex Ng’onga was a marvel to watch. The much-maligned and misunderstood player dazzled many times and made the stadium rise in cheers with very few jeers that normally accompany his usual profligacy. He cause LD problems especially when he switched to the right where Mwila Phiri was.

Two things made Power fail to put the game beyond LD: Monga Ndala was in a good mood and Larry Bwalya was either marked beyond measure by Godfrey Chibanga or was inaccurate when shooting.

The result means LD is out of the Barclays Cup and will have its work cut out to finish in the top four. It’s decision time at LD in terms of either personnel changes or system changes. It’s not impossible to finish in the top 4 however. But something has to give.
