This is arguably one of the games to watch if not the game to watch in all 4 Division 1 zones. And surely there will be a number of teams in Zone Two monitoring this encounter with an eagle’s eye.
The visitors come into this game on 4th spot and know a win will see them go one point clear of Mufulira Wanderers and they could actually end up second should Konkola Blades lose or draw against Mining Rangers . That’s what makes this encounter a cracker.
No team though between these two is able to go top after this round of games as Chambishi looks to be enjoying the best of form with a four point lead at the top of the most competitive zone in Zambian second tier league.
Both teams will look to maintain the winning streak after winning their week eight games and put more pressure on the leaders. Gomes were winners away in Solwezi against FQMO Roads while Mufulira Wanderers beat Ndola United away in Ndola at Musa Kasonka Stadium.
However, they both failed to reduce the gap between themselves and Chambishi who also won against Kashikishi Warriors. But for now that won’t worry the two teams as they are doing what they are supposed to do – win games and not look on the log standing.
Mufulira Wanderers remain one of the two teams yet to test defeat this season (the other being the leaders Chambishi). They are also one of the best four teams with the best defence having only conceded two goals. Hence, Gomes should be very good to break that Wanderers’ tight defence but they should also worry that Gomes is good going forward which can make their defense succumb and concede.
Mathews Macha impressed for Mufulira Wanderers last weekend, scoring his third goal of the season and he looks like he will be the one that the team will be looking out for for goals. That is also one area that Coach Justin will be looking to improve as ‘Mighty’ is not getting as many goals as needed to take charge of the zone and the longer it takes the more desperate the situation will get. Strikers need to start delivering and putting all responsibilities on the shoulders of one striker would be suicidal for a bigger club of Wanderers pedigree.
When these two sides meet this Saturday at Shinde Stadium, it will be a battle off fighting for the top two while following closely of what Konkola Blades will be doing against Mining Rangers.
Mufulira Wanderers are also fighting to keep their unbeaten run intact and they wouldn’t want to lose that at their home tuff. It’s a tough game but the home advantage and the clean sheet at home is the driving force for three points for Wanderers in this encounter. Take note there is another six pointer involving Chambishi and Indeni this weekend and each team will be fighting to take advantage of any slip ups.
For the neutrals, it’s game on.
