The FA of Zambia pronounced Green Buffaloes Crowned Champions in Dramatic Style. Here is the whole final day story.
Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club has emerged victorious in the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super League after a thrilling final day of the season. The champions secured their title in dramatic fashion with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Queens Sports Academy, while final-day leaders Red Arrows were held to a goalless draw by BUSA.
The victory saw Green Buffaloes finish the league on 81 points, just one point ahead of the Air Ladies who finished in second place. The defending champions displayed their class throughout the season, losing only two of their 34 matches and conceding just 12 goals.
The final day of the season was a nail-biting affair with several closely contested matches. The match between BUSA and Queens ended in a goalless draw, leaving both teams to settle for a point each.
Meanwhile, Green Eagles Women and Indeni Roses played out a 0-0 draw, and Mufulira Wanderers lost 0-2 to YASA Queens.
In another match, Nkwazi Queens were beaten 0-2 by Elite Ladies, with Thandiwe Nkhata scoring the opening goal in the 41st minute and Madyina Ngulube sealing the victory with a goal in the 84th minute.
Trident Queens also suffered a 0-1 defeat to National Assembly, with Grace Mulaisho scoring the only goal of the game.
ZANACO Ladies were awarded a walkover win against Police Doves Queens, while ZESCO Ndola Girls secured a 2-0 victory over Prison Leopards Queens, with Happy Pinto and Avell Chitundu both getting on the scoresheet.
Finally, ZISD Women beat Play It Forward Queens 2-0 with goals from Lungowe Namasiku and Mercy Vitumbiko.
The 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super League was a highly competitive season, with several teams vying for the top spot throughout the campaign. However, it was Green Buffaloes who ultimately emerged as champions, displaying their resilience and skill on the field.
