Zesco United edged division one side Kitwe United 1-0 in the quarter-final match of the 2017 Barclays Cup to advance to the semi-finals of the same competition on Wednesday at Nkana Stadium.
It was a match of few chances in first half for both teams as they failed to break the deadlock after missing some scoring opportunities.
Kitwe United were reduced to 10 men on 28th minute when Lolozi Moses was given matching orders by referee Joe Bwembya for deliberately handling the ball in 18 yard area.
Striker Jesse Were stepped in to take the resultant penalty but shot over the bar.
First half ended in a scoreless draw.
In the second stanza, Fackson Kapumbu separated the two sides with his 63rd minute goal thanks to a back heel pass from John Ching’andu.
Kitwe United piled pressure on Zesco in search of an equaliser in closing stages but United defence was equal to the task.
United will meet Lusaka Dynamos in the semi-finals next month.
Zanaco qualified automatically after Power Dynamos withdrawal from the competition.
