Nkana booted out of the Confederation Cup

Nkana football club was booted out of the 2018 Total Caf Confederations Cup despite beating Chabab Riadhi Belouizdad FC 1-0 in the return leg match of the second round played on Saturday 17th March at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Belouizdad qualify on a 1-3 aggregate for the pre-group stage.

The Beston Chambeshi coached side needed to score 4 unanswered goals to proceed to the next stage. Nkana could have gone at half time leading by more than 2-0 but failed to convert key clear chances.

Nkana’s redemption came on 47th minute when defender Diego Apanane scored from a penalty kick before he missed a second penalty towards the second stanza.

 

Kalampa will now concentrate on the FAZ/MTN Super League match against Forest Rangers likely to be played midweek on Wednesday, March 22 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

In Swaziland, Zambia’s representative in the Caf Champions League Zanaco, lost 1-0 to Mbabane Swallows in a match played at Somhlolo National Stadium. Despite being ejected out of the Champions League, Zanaco has dropped to the Caf Confederations Cup.

At Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Ivory Coast , Asec Mimosas host Zambia’s Zesco United in the return leg fixture.

United lost 1-0 at home in the first leg match.

 

Super League

Away from continental football, MTN/FAZ Super League kicked off today with new Super league entrants Monze Swallows being handed a 2-0 defeat by Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium.

Bruce Musakanya and Josephat Kasusu scored the goals in 55th and 78th minute respectively.
