On the evening of April 27, 1993, the Zambian Air Force’s DHC-5 Buffalo Transport Aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after taking off from Libreville, Gabon.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of all 25 passengers, who were members of the Zambian National Football Team, as well as five crew members. The team was en route to Dakar for a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Senegal.
