Patson Daka was crowned CAF Youth Player of the Year at the CAF Awards Gala 2017 in Accra Ghana. The Zambia and Salzburg 19 year old player received the award ahead of Krepin Diatta of Senegal and Salam Giddou of Mali.
Patson takes the 2017 year’s ownership from Nigeria’s and Arsenal young star and forward Alex Chuka Iwobi who won the CAF Youth Player of the Year for 2016. Prior years 2014 and 2015 saw other two Nigerian youth players Asisat Oshoala and Victor Osimhen scoop the award. Patson makes it the only player to be awarded from Zambia and outside Nigeria.
Patson Daka helped Zambia National Football Team U-20 scoop the African Championship in March 2017 held in Zambia and later went on to participate in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea 2017. Zambia reached quarters finals before been booted out by Italy.
Patson Daka encouraged his fellow players and said it was the beginning of the better things to come.
“Let us keep working extra hard and change the face of African Football, for we are the future of the African Football” Patson Concluded.
