Stakes too high as Zambia crash out – Morocco vs Zambia

Stakes responsively imagined too high as Zambia crash out (3 Morocco vs Zambia 1) at CHAN 2021.

Soufiane Rahimi, Bemammer, and El Kaabi were all on target for Morocco as the Atlas Lions beat Zambia by 3-1 to proceed to the semi-finals of the CHAN tournament in Cameroon. While for Zambia I was a crash out and packing of bags heading straight home.

It was an upgraded performance by the Zambian boys but Schoolboy mistakes in their rear rank coupled with a needless red card on Zachariah Chilongoshi saw the Zambian boys handed a beating that crashes them out of the tournament.

Coming into the fixture, Morrocco were favorites to win but Zambia put a spirited display that doesn’t tally with the final score-line. The Chipolopolo over respected their opponents conceding two goals in the first 10 minutes in the silliest of ways and that was enough digging of a grave that buried the Zambian dream in Cameroon.

Despite playing a man down, there was a significant change in the Chipolopolo pattern of play, the Zambians came in the second half with command and possession for long spells of the match but it came too late as they still lacked that killer touch, instinct, and finishing power in the final third.

Zambia created all chances to change the unfortunate statistic graffitied on them in the terrible first half but the Morrocans stood tight closing all pockets of space in the Zambian shooting range.

Moses Phiri pulled one back in the 80th minute but it was too little too late as Zambia’s adventure in Cameroon came to a barbed end.
