Zambia knocks out Zimbabwe.
Zambia advanced to the Finals of the 2019 COSAFA cup after negotiating past an AFCON bound star-studded Zimbabwe. It wasn’t a stellar display most utopian football followers would fancy but after a barren draw, the goddess of shoot outs gave Zambia a peck that puts Southern Africa Supremacy within touching distance.
The Zambian front line and wings were on holiday throughout the match and offered nothing to write about. Aggrey Chiyangi’ tactical shortfalls again came to the fore when he couldn’t substitute any of his tired attackers.
Ernest Mbewe, Tapson Kaseba, and Kambole all got depleted of firepower but Chiyangi waited to the death of the match to introduce Musakanya. On the contrary, the Zambian defense was a united force of unbreakable cords.
In between the sticks, SEBASTIAN MWANGE was a marvel. He has been the best goalkeeper in the league and that stellar display doesn’t come as a surprise. Destiny can be delayed but it cannot be denied. He is one for the next serious Chipolopolo assignments and posterity nods in agreement with me when I say Mwange will be the boy to replace Mweene.
MWILA Phiri on the left flank was superb in all facets of quality defending. His imposing stature was not only intimidating but also bullish. Calm, cool and composed, he was a general who commanded that flank with his own rules. He showed signs of fatigue towards the end of the match but its something he can quickly fix.
THANDI Mwape literally walked on broken bottles putting his safety on the line for Mwange to have adequate cover and what more can we ask from a center back? Thandi Mwape has no doubt come of age. He played under the shadow of Clement Mwape last season and Clements departure has to him only proved to be a blessing in disguise. He has been playing with a condensed sense of responsibility, maturity and a high level of physical rectitude. Warriors will need him but he is a player ZANACO can’t get into continental duty without.
ADRIAN was a nuisance in the match against Malawi but the captain came back different. He was swathed in positive energy coming against a Zimbabwe front line that threw everything at him. Chawapiwa, Billiat and Musona kept squirting scorpion stings right left and center but the captain was a field Martial.
His recovery, holding, movements, defending antics, and body language was better than what he offered in the match against Malawi.
