Zesco Nkana Showdown Clash In The CAF Confederation Group Stage

Nkana football club this Sunday travel to nearby city Ndola to face Zesco United in CAF Confederations Cup group stage opener at Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

Nkana, who in recent fixtures against Zesco have come out winners of this tightly contested rivalry, are on the good bets and favorite to win.

Beginning with the Zambian football curtain raiser The Samuel ZOOM Ndhlovu Charity Shield Zesco came out short on penalty shootout allowing Kalampa to lift the trophy for the consecutive time.

And earlier in the Zambia Barclays cup 2018 it was Nkana that took a better chance thwarting Zesco the chance to proceed to the finals.

The September 2018 fixture happened against a backdrop of the abandoned game earlier in July marred by violence at Levy Mwanawasa. Zesco was punished by the Football Association with a 3-0 scoreline in favor of Nkana.

However, the 2018 league champions will highly depend on the experience gained in playing continental games for the past five seasons with LazarousKombole leading the strike force.

Caf Confederation Group C Chances

Zesco United and Nkana will have to overcome Asante Kotoko and Al Hilal if they are to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The four teams above make Group C.

In this group, Al Hilal is the highly ranked club at 7th position in Africa, while Asante Kotoko is in 37th.

Zesco United 45th and Nkana are the least ranked side in the 228th position.

As a result, Nkana will have to prove their worth if they are to pull through this difficult group and with recent internal problems that have rocked the club where players seem to have lost confidence in the club`s management, psychological preparedness will play a major role in competing favorably in CAF competition.

Nkana has just lost their first-choice goalkeeper, Allan Chibuye who disappeared and only surfacing at Lumwana Radiants. It is also rumored that captain and Congolese striker Walter Bwalya also wants to ditch the Kitwe based side.

However, Nkana will have to depend on the creative midfielder Kelvin MubangaKampamba, the unpredictable Ronald `Sate Sate` Kampamba, to hurt the electricity boys on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the Zambia super league enters week 2 and will compete favorably with 8 matches skated for today.
