Participating in the CAF club leagues 5 times, champions of the MTN FAZ super league Zesco United face Al Ahly SC of Egypt in the group stage of the CAF Champions league.
Al Ahly is already in the country for the showdown scheduled for 15:30pm tomorrow at Levy Mwanawasa stadium. Al Ahly Sporting Club is the richest club in the football history of Egypt, having won a record of 37 national titles, 35 national cups and 9 national super cups. The team was founded in 1907 and play their home games at the whooping 75,000 seater the Cairo International Stadium.
Last time Al Ahly was in Zambia played at Chilata with Nkana on Saturday 09/08/2014 and Nkana won that game with the only goal. The last five games played by Al Ahly four have been in favour with capabilities to score up to four goals in a fixture.
Zesco`s worry would the ability to play with the Egyptians, in the Caf club leagues, with the current squad they have this season. The last four games the MTN FAZ 2015 champions have played does not show any good of producing a convincing results statistically. Al Ahly on the other hand have won the championship 8 times and this is no easy opponent for Zesco United.
Group stage games are all about collecting points and that should be the aim for Zambian champions if they aim to progress. Home games should be the key area of producing maximum points and avoid defeat on away games at all cost.
Will George Lwandamina pull through the Zambian giant to that vision? Given he has another task at the national level with the football team.
